EPL: Barry scores brace as Everton beat Coventry 3-1

Everton moved into fifth place in the Premier League after coming from behind to defeat Coventry City 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday, with Thierno Barry scoring twice.

The French striker’s second-half brace turned the game around for David Moyes’ side after Coventry took the lead through Yann Gboho, who scored his first goal for the visitors in his second league appearance.

Gboho put Coventry ahead in the 52nd minute, but Barry restored parity four minutes later with a header before completing his double in the 61st minute with a scrappy finish from close range.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall sealed the victory for Everton in the 81st minute, adding to his impressive contributions from midfield as the hosts secured all three points.

Barry’s goals took his tally to 10 for the season, two more than he managed in his debut campaign.

The 24-year-old has now scored in three consecutive matches for Everton for the first time and has netted six times in his last seven appearances across all competitions.

Only Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, with nine league goals, has scored more in the Premier League this season, according to the report, as Barry’s impressive form continues to boost Everton’s campaign.

Coventry manager Frank Lampard may feel aggrieved over a first-half incident involving James Tarkowski, who appeared to pull Caleb Yirenkyi’s hair when the game was still goalless.

However, Everton’s attacking response after the break proved decisive.

The victory also marked a significant milestone for Moyes, who equalled Harry Catterick’s record of 592 matches in charge of Everton.

The Scottish manager had joked before the match that Haaland should be worried about Barry’s scoring form.
