The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, Senator Ahmed Wadada, has promised to address communal conflicts and farmers-herders clashes across the state if elected in the 2027 governorship election.
Wadada gave the assurance on Saturday during a gathering of Tiv communities in Akwanga Local Government Area, where stakeholders endorsed him for governor, alongside incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule for the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat.
The gathering also witnessed an endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027, with the participants expressing support for the administration’s efforts to address farmers-herders conflicts.
Speaking at the event, Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said his administration would prioritise security and inclusive governance.
He explained that his development plan, known as the HEARTS Agenda, would focus on human capital development, economic growth, agriculture, rural transformation, technology, investment and security.
According to him, the agenda is designed to promote sustainable development, create opportunities for young people and improve the living conditions of residents across the state.
Wadada said, “Security is a key component of the HEARTS Agenda, so I will not joke with the security of residents of Nasarawa State, including farmers. I want to assure you all that if I become governor, the issue of farmers-herders clashes will be a thing of the past.”
He added that his administration would work with relevant stakeholders and communities to find lasting solutions to the conflicts, noting that improved security would also support food production and sufficiency.
The APC candidate further pledged to sustain projects and programmes initiated by Sule, whom he commended for his contributions to infrastructure, industrialisation, agriculture, healthcare, education and security.
Earlier, the President of the Tiv Development Association in Nasarawa State, Barnabas Zayol, said the community endorsed Wadada, Sule and Tinubu because of its confidence in their leadership.
Zayol said Tiv residents in the northern senatorial district were prepared to support the APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
He said, “We are here because we are not going to make a second decision to anybody. We are strong, we are firm.”
He also acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers and political leaders in mobilising members of the community ahead of the elections.
In his remarks, Sule thanked the Tiv community for its support for his administration.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Yakubu Kwanta, said engagements with Tiv residents across the three local government areas in the Nasarawa North Senatorial District indicated that some grassroots communities appreciated the government’s efforts to improve their livelihoods.
