AC Milan defeated city rivals Inter Milan 3-1 in Saturday’s Serie A derby at San Siro, with Diego Moreira scoring once and providing two assists to inspire the hosts to victory.
Milan took control early in the encounter, opening the scoring in the fourth minute through Christian Pulisic, who headed home Moreira’s cross.
The hosts doubled their advantage six minutes later when Adrien Rabiot collected the ball at the edge of the box and curled a superb effort into the far corner following a short-corner routine.
Inter reduced the deficit in the 22nd minute through Alessandro Bastoni, who headed home from close range after Manuel Akanji flicked on Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner kick.
The visitors nearly drew level in the 35th minute, but goalkeeper Mike Maignan produced an impressive save to deny a close-range effort from Dejan Spence.
Moreira restored Milan’s two-goal advantage shortly before half-time, scoring directly from a long-range free-kick in the 44th minute to cap an outstanding performance.
Inter continued searching for a way back after the restart but struggled to break down Milan’s defence.
Their hopes of reducing the deficit suffered a setback in the 75th minute when the referee overturned a penalty decision following a VAR review.
Replays showed that the ball had struck Matteo Gabbia’s chest rather than his arm.
The visitors introduced fresh attacking options in the closing stages but could not find another goal as Milan held on for the victory.
The result marked Milan’s third win in their last four Serie A meetings with Inter and extended their unbeaten run against their city rivals to nine matches.
