Juventus returned to winning ways in Serie A with a 2-0 victory over Lecce on Sunday, thanks to first-half goals from Weston McKennie and Douglas Luiz.
The visitors took control of the matchday eight encounter at the Via del Mare Stadium, with McKennie opening the scoring in the 29th minute before Douglas Luiz doubled their advantage 12 minutes later.
Juventus broke the deadlock through a well-worked free-kick routine.
Douglas Luiz delivered the ball into a dangerous area, allowing McKennie to get a decisive touch and beat Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.
The Brazilian midfielder then got on the scoresheet himself in the 41st minute, finishing a move involving Nick Woltemade, Randal Kolo Muani and Federico Gatti with a first-time right-footed effort from the edge of the penalty area.
Lecce attempted to fight their way back into the contest after the break, creating opportunities to reduce the deficit.
However, Juventus goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario remained alert as the home side struggled to find a way past the visitors’ defence.
Lecce’s efforts to mount a comeback yielded no goal, while Juventus missed opportunities to extend their lead.
Niccolò Woltemade squandered a promising chance in the 78th minute, while Juan Cabal fired over after breaking through on goal late in the match.
The victory provides a timely boost for Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti following a draw and a heavy league defeat to Lazio.
The Turin club remain three points behind fourth-placed Como, who occupy a Champions League qualification position.
Juventus will next face Genoa in Serie A on Wednesday, while Lecce will travel to Frosinone on Thursday as they look to bounce back from the defeat.
