Ex-Man Utd star Antony’s home ‘burgled’ during Betis UCL clash

Former Manchester United winger, Antony, has revealed that his home in Seville, Spain, was burgled while he was in action for Real Betis during their UEFA Champions League victory over Porto on Wednesday.

The Brazilian winger provided an assist for Cucho Hernandez as Betis came from behind to secure a 3-2 win over the Portuguese side at La Cartuja.

However, the celebrations were overshadowed by the discovery that burglars had broken into his residence while he was playing.

Antony, 26, who joined Betis permanently after an initial loan spell from Manchester United, disclosed the incident in an emotional message on Instagram.

He expressed sadness and anger over the invasion of his home, revealing that personal belongings had been stolen.

“Today, I want to talk about something that made me very sad and angry,” Antony posted on his Instagram story.

“What should have been a beautiful night ended in anger and frustration. My house was robbed. It’s hard to describe the feeling of having your home broken into. Everything we worked so hard for and poured our hearts into obtaining was taken by someone who has no idea how much hardship we went through to get it.”

The Brazil international said the incident had affected his family’s sense of security, stressing that their safety was more important to him than the stolen possessions.

“The most infuriating thing is not just the loss of belongings, but the loss of security in a place where we should feel most protected, and seeing the unease in my family’s eyes. But after all this, one thing makes me even more certain: in this world, no possession is more precious than the lives and safety of my family. […] What was lost, we can earn back. The effort will not stop.”

Antony will now have to balance his football commitments with supporting his family following the incident.

Betis are scheduled to face Barcelona in La Liga on Saturday, although it remains unclear whether the burglary will affect the winger’s availability for the fixture.
