INEC warns against fake voter registration portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website falsely claiming that the nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently open.

The Punch reported that INEC, in a public notice issued on Saturday, said the website, pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com, had misleadingly announced a fresh registration period from September 28 to October 27, 2026.

The commission urged Nigerians to stay away from the platform and refrain from clicking on its link or providing personal information, warning that doing so could expose them to cyber fraud.

“Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused,” the advisory read.

INEC clarified that the nationwide voter registration exercise ended on July 26, 2026, stressing that claims that a new online registration exercise was underway were false.

“The commission further wishes to clarify that the voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026. Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above-mentioned website is false,” it stated.

The fake platform reportedly advertises what it describes as the “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration,” offering services including updating voter details, transferring polling units and replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards.

It also falsely claims that voter registration and PVC delivery are free.

The electoral body advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and obtain information about electoral activities only through its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent websites.
