One person has reportedly been killed while another sustained serious injuries following a suspected cult clash in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred around Ojo Road on Sunday evening, September 27, after a dispute allegedly involving members of rival cult groups.
Reports indicated that a suspected member of the Aye group, identified only as Qudus, allegedly stabbed a suspected member of the Vikings confraternity during the confrontation.
Qudus was subsequently attacked by suspected Vikings members and reportedly sustained serious injuries.
He was said to have been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The incident later reportedly escalated into a reprisal attack, during which suspected Aye members allegedly killed a man around a bus stop on Ojo Road.
While a report attributed to Naija Confra claimed that the deceased was a member of the Vikings group, members of the rival group reportedly disputed the claim, saying the victim was not one of their members.
There were also conflicting accounts of how the confrontation began.
An X user identified as Mohawk alleged that four people initially went to the area to start a fight and that one of them brought an outsider who allegedly attacked Qudus and three others.
The user claimed that some of those involved were unaware of the alleged outsider’s intentions.
Mohawk further alleged that the matter was reported to the police, after which officers searched the suspect’s residence.
However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she was not immediately aware of the incident.
She said, “I’ll have to check with the DPO or Area Commander. I’ll get back to you tomorrow.”
As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to provide further details on the alleged clash, the identity of the deceased or whether any arrests had been made.
