Guinea-Bissau handed Nigeria a heavy 3-0 defeat in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group L clash at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau on Tuesday.
Franculino Djú put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute, beating Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali with a left-footed effort after Renato Nhaga picked him out inside the box.
Nigeria pushed for an equaliser before the break, with Alex Iwobi creating an opportunity for Ademola Lookman, but Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Embadjé reacted well to keep out the forward’s attempt.
The hosts remained dangerous after the restart and extended their lead in the 65th minute through Mama Baldé.
The forward collected a pass from Mamadi Camará on the left before sending a low effort into the Nigerian net.
Super Eagles coach, made a double substitution in the 75th minute as George Ilenikhena and Raphael Onyedika came on for Akor Adams and Wilfred Ndidi as Nigeria sought to reduce the deficit.
Ilenikhena nearly pulled one back five minutes from full-time, but Embadjé was again equal to the effort, preserving Guinea-Bissau’s two-goal advantage.
The hosts completed the rout in stoppage time when Álvaro Djaló raced onto a through ball from Tamble Monteiro and calmly finished with his right foot to make it 3-0.
The result is a setback for Nigeria, who had opened their Group L campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar.
