Angola beat Malawi 3-1 in AFCON qualifier

Angola secured their first victory in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after defeating Malawi 3-1 in Luanda on Tuesday.

The result moved Angola to four points from their opening two Group B matches, level with leaders Egypt, who occupy top spot on goal difference.

Angola made a flying start as Milson opened the scoring within three minutes of kick-off before Mabululu doubled the hosts’ advantage late in the first half.

Malawi reduced the deficit before the interval when Angola defender Kialonda Gaspar scored an own goal, giving the visitors hope of a comeback.

However, Angola restored their two-goal cushion 20 minutes from full-time when Miro found the net to seal the victory.

The win leaves Angola unbeaten after two qualifying matches, while Malawi remain on three points following their opening victory over South Sudan.

Angola will face South Sudan in consecutive home and away fixtures in November, while Malawi are set to meet Egypt in their next two matches.

The 2027 AFCON finals will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
