The Nigerian Navy has cautioned members of the public against fraudulent notices circulating on social media, purportedly announcing recruitment into its Direct Short Service Commission, DSSC.
The warning was issued on Tuesday by the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunsho, who said the notices being circulated online were not authorised by the Navy.
According to Folorunsho, the fake notices claim to advertise opportunities under DSSC Course 30 for professionals in fields including medicine, engineering, law and information technology.
He said the Navy had not commenced its DSSC recruitment exercise.
“The notices circulating on social media are not from the Nigerian Navy,” Folorunsho said.
He urged prospective applicants to disregard the publications and avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
“The Nigerian Navy DSSC recruitment is not out. When the exercise begins, the information will be published on my page, the official Nigerian Navy website and its verified social media platforms,” he said.
Folorunsho added, “Please do not let anyone scam you.”
The clarification comes shortly after the Navy announced its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment into the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.
The Batch 39 exercise is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, through the Navy’s official recruitment portal.
The Navy had also stressed that the recruitment process was free and warned applicants against paying individuals who claim they can secure recruitment slots.
The DSSC recruitment exercise is separate from the ongoing Batch 39 Basic Training School recruitment.
