Davor Šuker backs Modric to lead Croatia at Euro 2028

Croatia legend, Davor Suker, believes captain Luka Modric can continue playing at the highest level and potentially represent the country at Euro 2028.

The AC Milan midfielder turned 41 earlier this month and marked his 203rd international appearance with a goal as Croatia began their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Czechia.

Modric has yet to make a final decision on his international future, preferring to assess his plans gradually at both club and national-team level.

However, Suker believes the veteran midfielder still has what it takes to continue for some time and possibly feature at the 2028 European Championship.

“Modric has shown he can still perform at the top level. We have incredible quality in the squad. Hopefully there will be goals against Spain, because I don’t like 0-0s,” Suker said.

Croatia are preparing to face world champions Spain, with Suker acknowledging the quality of their opponents while expressing confidence in his country’s chances.

“Spain are favourites, but as a Croatian, I want to win. They have an amazing team, a good manager, and ambition. Hopefully they relax, but whenever people underestimate us, we step up,” he added.
