Liam Delap has completed a club-record £50m transfer from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest, signing a five-year contract with the Premier League side.
The 23-year-old striker leaves Stamford Bridge after just one season, during which he managed only one Premier League goal.
He will now look to revive his fortunes at Forest and rediscover the form that made him one of England’s most promising young forwards.
Delap enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Ipswich Town in the 2024-25 season, scoring 12 Premier League goals despite the club winning only four matches and eventually suffering relegation.
His performances earned him a move to Chelsea for about £30m.
After just a year, Chelsea have reportedly sold him to Forest for £50m, giving the London club a £20m profit on the transfer.
Delap’s strength, pace and ability to drive forward with the ball were among the attributes that impressed during his Ipswich spell.
He recorded 26 shot-ending carries that season, the highest figure among Premier League strikers.
At Nottingham Forest, the forward will work under manager Oliver Glasner, whom he believes can help him develop further and return to his best.
“This is a massive club with a big history.
“I spoke to the manager and I like his way. I think he can be the one to really help me develop and make that next step.”
Forest will be hoping Delap can reproduce his Ipswich form and repay the club’s record investment as he begins a new chapter of his career at the City Ground.
