Kylian Mbappé produced a sensational second-half performance, scoring three goals as Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 in José Mourinho’s first home match since returning to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid continued their perfect start under Mourinho with another impressive victory, as Mbappé’s clinical finishing and Vinícius Júnior’s goal secured a convincing win over Real Sociedad.
Madrid began brightly, with both sides creating opportunities in an open contest.
Vinícius narrowly missed the target, while Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro kept Mbappé and Vinícius at bay on several occasions.
Thibaut Courtois was also forced into action, making an important save from Mikel Oyarzabal.
The breakthrough finally arrived five minutes before half-time.
Federico Valverde found Mbappé, who produced a clever touch to evade his marker before firing an unstoppable effort into the top corner for his first league goal of the campaign.
Real Sociedad, however, responded before the interval.
After Job Ochieng’s effort was blocked, the ball fell to Luka Sučić, who finished from the rebound with the help of a deflection off Álvaro Carreras.
Mbappé restored Madrid’s lead shortly after the restart.
A flowing move involving Valverde and Jude Bellingham ended with the England midfielder setting up Mbappé, who calmly placed the ball beyond Remiro.
Real Madrid then took control of the match. Bellingham showed remarkable determination to win possession back inside the Sociedad penalty area after his initial shot was blocked, before laying the ball across for Vinícius to finish.
Mbappé completed his hat-trick soon afterwards. Vinícius turned provider, delivering a perfectly weighted pass for the French striker, who calmly lifted the ball over Remiro to complete a superb individual display.
The performance further underlined the attacking potential of Madrid’s star trio of Mbappé, Vinícius and Bellingham, with the English midfielder contributing two assists.
Vinícius was substituted late in the game and shared a warm embrace with Mourinho as he left the pitch. The Brazilian appeared in high spirits after his goal and the team’s dominant performance.
The victory gives Mourinho two wins from his opening two La Liga matches since returning to Madrid, with his side already showing signs of becoming a formidable attacking force.
Barcelona will face Athletic Bilbao on Thursday as the Spanish champions look to respond, with new signing Rodri expected to make his debut from the bench.
