German Embassy warns Nigerians against visa agents

The German Embassy in Nigeria has cautioned Nigerians against obtaining visa information from unofficial agents, warning that such sources could provide misleading information about the application process.

The embassy issued the warning on Wednesday through its official X account, urging prospective visa applicants to rely on information obtained directly from the mission and other authorised channels.

“Beware of misinformation. Save yourself the hassle and just ask us directly,” the embassy stated.

The mission also invited Nigerians to share claims they had received from visa agents, saying it would provide clarification on some of the issues in subsequent posts.

“Tell us some of the things you’ve heard from ‘visa agents’ in the comments, and we’ll answer in upcoming posts,” it added.

The embassy further stressed that it has no formal partnership with visa agents and advised applicants not to assume that individuals offering visa-related services were affiliated with the German government.

“We do not work with any ‘visa Agents’!” the embassy declared.

According to the mission, Nigerians seeking information on German visas can access the relevant details free of charge through its official website.

The warning comes amid concerns over the spread of inaccurate information surrounding visa requirements and application procedures.

The embassy urged applicants to verify claims through official sources to avoid unnecessary expenses, confusion and potential fraud.
