Anambra SSG denies link to alleged fake federal agency

The Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Chiamaka Nnake, has explained her involvement with a purported federal agency operating under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The Punch reported that Nnake said her involvement was limited to serving as the nominated State Focal Person for the Made-in-Nigeria Office after the Anambra State Government received an official request to nominate a representative.

She explained that in January 2026, the state governor received a letter from the Made-in-Nigeria Office, which claimed to operate under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, requesting the nomination of a State Focal Person.

According to her, the governor subsequently nominated her in February 2026 to represent Anambra State.

She said focal persons from the 36 states were thereafter added to a WhatsApp group where they discussed activities connected to the office.

Nnake also disclosed that the office later requested that Anambra host the South-East Made-in-Nigeria Fair, a proposal which the state approved.

She said an inaugural meeting was held about two weeks ago, with the National Coordinator of the purported agency in attendance.

However, the development came under scrutiny after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission reportedly discovered that the office was purportedly fake.

The controversy prompted the SSG to issue a statement on Saturday, titled, “Clarification on the ‘Made-in-Nigeria Agency’ and my role as State Focal Person.”

Nnake said the clarification was necessary because her photograph had been circulated on the Made-in-Nigeria website, identifying her as one of the state coordinators.

She said, “I wish to clarify the circumstances surrounding the trending news concerning the purported ‘Made-in-Nigeria Agency’, in which my photograph has been displayed and I have been identified as one of the state coordinators.

“In January 2026, the Governor received a letter from the Made-in-Nigeria Office, said to be under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, requesting the nomination of a State Focal Person.

“In response, the Governor, in February 2026, nominated me as the State Focal Person for Anambra State.

“Following the nominations, Focal Persons from the 36 states have been in a WhatsApp group engaging on issues relating to the activities of the office.

“More recently, the same office wrote to the State requesting that Anambra host the South-East Made-in-Nigeria Fair.

“The request was approved, and an inaugural meeting was held about two weeks ago, with the National Coordinator in attendance.”

The SSG said the state committee had already commenced preparations for the fair, which was scheduled for December 2 to 5, 2026.

She, however, stressed that her involvement did not extend beyond the official engagements she described.

“Beyond these official interactions and engagements, she has no knowledge of, involvement in, or connection with any other activities, claims, or developments attributed to the said office.

“I therefore wish to make it clear that anything beyond the above-mentioned official interactions is entirely outside my knowledge and involvement,” she added.

Nnake’s clarification comes amid an ongoing controversy over the legitimacy of the purported Made-in-Nigeria agency and claims surrounding its activities.
