Nigerian sprinter, Kayinsola Ajayi, will return to Diamond League action on Sunday as he competes in the men’s 100m at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Silesia, Poland.
The meeting represents the penultimate stop in the Road to the Final series and comes just three days after the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne on Friday.
Ajayi will have his work cut out for him in a highly competitive field that includes world champion Oblique Seville, Olympic champion Andre De Grasse, Americans Christian Coleman and Kenneth Bednarek, Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake and South Africa’s Akani Simbine.
He will also renew his rivalry with Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, the Commonwealth Games champion who recently finished ahead of the Nigerian in Glasgow.
The 21-year-old heads to Silesia after enjoying a remarkable breakthrough season that has established him among the world’s leading young sprinters.
Ajayi broke Olusoji Fasuba’s 20-year-old Nigerian 100m record of 9.85 seconds in May, clocking 9.84 at the 2026 NCAA Division I East First Round in the United States.
He went on to win the NCAA outdoor 100m title and has matched his national record on two occasions, while also securing two Diamond League victories this season.
His impressive form continued at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he claimed bronze in the men’s 100m.
The Auburn University standout also announced on Thursday that he would skip his final year of collegiate eligibility after three seasons, paving the way for the start of his professional career with Adidas.
“New era. I am grateful to God to finally announce that I am officially embarking on the next chapter of my journey—continuing my professional track and field career with Adidas,” Ajayi wrote on X.
The Nigerian sprinter initially signed a Name, Image and Likeness deal with Adidas in April 2025 while competing for Auburn.
With valuable points still available ahead of the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 4-5, Ajayi will be hoping to maintain his impressive form and strengthen his position with another strong showing in Silesia.
