Rodri is reportedly set to continue his long-standing association with the No. 16 shirt after completing his move from Manchester City to Barcelona.
The Spain international has become closely linked with the number during his career, wearing it prominently at both club and international level.
He is now expected to retain the shirt as he begins a new chapter at Camp Nou.
At Barcelona, however, the No. 16 had been occupied by midfielder Fermín López.
The young Spaniard has reportedly agreed to give up the number following discussions with Rodri.
Fermín is expected to switch to the No. 7 shirt, clearing the way for Rodri to take his preferred number ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Rodri’s arrival represents a major addition to Barcelona’s midfield, with the experienced midfielder bringing years of top-level experience from his time in England and with the Spanish national team.
The No. 16 has carried particular significance for Rodri throughout his career, making the decision to retain it at Barcelona a notable detail ahead of his first season with the Catalan giants.
The reported agreement also means Fermín will begin the new campaign with a different shirt number as he continues his development at Barcelona.
