Two Lagos fires contained, no casualty recorded – LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has contained two separate fire incidents in Igando and Anifowoshe, Ikeja, with no fatalities recorded.

The Punch reported that LASEMA disclosed this in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, following emergency responses carried out across the state between Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday.

The first incident occurred around 7:37pm on Sunday at 23 Shaba Ojo Street, close to Omolade Bus Stop, Igando.

According to the agency, its Dolphin Team was dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call and found a two-storey building with fire coming from a two-bedroom apartment.

LASEMA said the affected apartment was unoccupied at the time and that an electrical surge was identified as the cause of the fire.

Working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the emergency responders were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other apartments within the building.

“Through the swift intervention of the Dolphin Team and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was curtailed and prevented from spreading to other flats in the building,” the agency said.
Dampening-down operations were later completed, with the response team leaving the scene at about 8:24pm.

“No casualty was recorded,” LASEMA added.

A second fire was reported at approximately 11:30pm at 61 Abeokuta Street, Anifowoshe, Ikeja.

The agency said its Tiger Squad responded to the incident and found one of the two-bedroom apartments on the top floor of a storey building engulfed in flames.

LASEMA attributed the fire to an electrical surge involving an air-conditioning unit.

Firefighters immediately began operations to bring the situation under control, working alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

The agency said the intervention successfully restricted the fire to the affected bedroom before it was completely extinguished.

“The fire was confined to the affected bedroom and completely extinguished,” the statement said.
No casualty was also recorded in the second incident, while the response team returned to base after completing recovery operations.

LASEMA said its interventions were part of efforts to implement the Lagos State Government’s directive to safeguard lives and property across the state.

The agency further reaffirmed its commitment to reducing disaster risks and ensuring prompt responses to emergencies across Lagos.

“LASEMA remains committed to its mandate of disaster risk reduction, effective response, and building a safer, more resilient Lagos,” the agency said.
