The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, says it has responded to several emergencies across the state, including truck breakdowns, a road crash and a fire outbreak.
The agency said its emergency teams carried out the operations between Friday and Sunday, deploying personnel, paramedics and recovery equipment to manage the incidents.
In a statement, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said one of the incidents involved a container truck that broke down at Palm Avenue Bus Stop, inward Oye.
He said the agency’s response team diverted traffic while its heavy-duty equipment was deployed to remove the truck and restore movement.
Oke-Osanyintolu said another container truck suffered an electrical fault at Ojuwoye Bus Stop, inward Oshodi, on Friday evening.
According to him, the vehicle was secured and later removed from the road with the assistance of LASEMA’s recovery equipment.
On Saturday, the agency responded to a crash at Otedola, along the Mobil-Berger axis, involving a Ford Escape SUV and a moving truck.
The agency said the SUV crashed into the rear of the truck, leaving its male driver and female passenger injured.
LASEMA said its paramedics, working with LASAMBUS, administered first aid before taking the injured persons to a trauma centre for further treatment.
The agency added that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASTMA and the Nigeria Police also assisted at the scene, while the vehicles were later moved to Isheri Police Station.
LASEMA also reported the recovery of other broken-down trucks at Olorunshogo Bus Stop, inward Cappa, and Ojuwoye.
Meanwhile, the agency said its emergency team responded to a fire at Bakare Street, Ojodu Berger, on Sunday.
It said three of eight shops containing food and frozen products were affected, with the fire reportedly linked to an electrical surge after power was restored.
According to LASEMA, the blaze was contained before it spread to the other shops, and no death was recorded.
The agency also responded to an incident involving a 40-foot loaded container at Shoprite, inward Governor’s Road, where the container reportedly fell from a truck and blocked a lane.
LASEMA said several pieces of recovery equipment were deployed to transload the Peak Milk products, tow the truck head and recover the flatbed before the road was reopened.
Giving an update on the operations, Oke-Osanyintolu said all affected roads had been cleared.
“All operations have been concluded, affected roadways have been restored and response teams have returned to base in good condition.”
He urged motorists to observe safety regulations, maintain their vehicles properly and exercise caution while using the roads.
The LASEMA permanent secretary also assured residents that the agency would continue to respond promptly to emergencies across Lagos.
