Trabzonspor have turned down a bid of about €30m from Crystal Palace for Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu, according to Turkish outlet Haber61.
The Turkish Cup winners are unwilling to part with the 23-year-old, who has attracted interest from a number of European clubs after making a strong start to life at the club.
Trabzonspor value Nwaiwu at €35m and are standing by that valuation despite Palace’s sizeable offer.
The defender joined the Turkish side from Wolfsberger AC in January and quickly became an important figure in their defence.
Nwaiwu helped Trabzonspor finish his first half-season with silverware, featuring as the club defeated Konyaspor 2-1 in the Turkish Cup final. He remains under contract until June 30, 2030.
His performances have also increased his market value, with the Nigeria international scoring three headed goals in 16 league appearances during the second half of last season.
Crystal Palace have been looking to strengthen their defence following the departures of Maxence Lacroix and Marc Guehi.
Lacroix moved to Chelsea this summer, while Guehi joined Manchester City earlier in the year.
Despite Palace’s interest, Trabzonspor are keen to retain Nwaiwu as they prepare to challenge for the Super Lig title next season.
The club would only consider a sale if an offer that meets their demands arrives before the transfer window closes.
Fulham are also pursuing the defender and have reportedly agreed personal terms with him, although they are yet to reach an agreement with Trabzonspor over the transfer fee.
Several French clubs are also monitoring Nwaiwu, while clubs from Italy’s Serie A have reportedly expressed interest in the centre-back.
