It said the region could experience more thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall in the afternoon and evening.

The North-Central region is expected to have sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning before thunderstorms develop later in the day.

For the South, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions with chances of light rain in parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states during the morning, followed by moderate rainfall across the region later in the day.

The agency urged residents in areas likely to experience thunderstorms to take precautionary measures, warning that strong winds could precede the rains.

It advised the public to secure loose objects, avoid driving or walking through floodwaters and stay away from tall trees during storms.

“The expected continuous rains over the coastal areas of the South have good prospects of flash flooding. Avoid driving or wading through floodwaters. Driving under heavy rain should be avoided,” NiMet warned.

The agency also advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms and urged airline operators to obtain location-specific weather reports to support safe flight operations.
