A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for their roles in the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The convicts — Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa and Shamsudin Adamu — were found guilty of concealing information about the alleged masterminds of the kidnapping.
The three men had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges filed against them by the Federal Government.
During proceedings before Justice Salem Ibrahim, the defendants also admitted to being members of Darul Salam, an affiliate of the proscribed terrorist group, Ansaru.
Umar and Adamu further confessed to providing training and instructions, as well as inciting members of a WhatsApp group known as “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to carry out acts of terrorism.
Umar also admitted to engaging in unauthorised gold mining activities at streams in the Chaza area of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.
The court subsequently convicted and sentenced the three defendants to life imprisonment.
