Influencer Andrew Tate, brother arrested in US over fresh UK charges

Controversial influencer, Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, have been arrested in the United States following the announcement by British authorities of additional criminal charges against them.

The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service disclosed that Andrew Tate now faces seven new rape charges, alongside other allegations involving sex trafficking and child pornography.

Tristan Tate has been charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.

According to the CPS, the alleged offences were committed between July 2010 and August 2017. Both brothers have consistently denied any wrongdoing.

“These charging decisions followed receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police and bring the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven,” Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Special Crime Division at the Crown Prosecution Service, said.

The US Marshals confirmed to the BBC that the brothers had been taken into custody, while a spokesperson for the US Department of Justice said the arrests were carried out “pursuant to extradition proceedings”.

The CPS also confirmed that it has formally requested the extradition of the Tate brothers, who hold dual British and American citizenship, from the United States to the UK.

Responding to the arrests, the brothers’ lawyer, Joseph McBride, insisted they were innocent.

“The world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent,” McBride said in a statement issued on Saturday evening.

“Their enemies know it best of all. That is exactly why they have been attacked,” McBride continued, describing the new UK charges as a “political hit”.

He argued that the latest charges were intended to undermine a defamation lawsuit the brothers had filed in the United States.

“We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free. America does not do Britain’s political dirty work,” he continued.

In May 2025, prosecutors confirmed that Andrew, 39, and Tristan, 37, would face a total of 21 charges in the UK, relating to alleged offences said to have occurred between 2012 and 2016.

Bedfordshire Police obtained European arrest warrants for the brothers in 2024 to secure their return from Romania, where they have been based while facing a separate criminal investigation.

In June, the pair also failed in a legal attempt to compel prosecutors to reveal the identities of their UK accusers after the CPS ruled that the names of the alleged victims should remain confidential until formal legal proceedings begin.
