The Chairman of Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State, Umar Yusuf, has approved the immediate revocation of all previously issued indigeneship certificates as the council introduces a redesigned version of the document.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the council’s Director of Administration and General Services, Ali Baba.
According to the statement, the decision followed the introduction of a new certificate format, with residents advised to obtain the updated documents from the local government secretariat.
“All persons holding the old certificates are hereby directed to report to the Office of the Director of Administration and General Services at the Local Government Secretariat to collect the new certificate of indigeneship,” Yusuf said.
The chairman stressed that the old certificates are no longer valid and should no longer be used for any official purpose.
“All old certificates currently in circulation stand revoked with immediate effect,” he stated.
The council urged affected residents to comply with the directive promptly by visiting the secretariat to obtain the newly introduced certificates.
The announcement did not specify the reasons behind the redesign or whether holders of the old certificates would be required to meet additional conditions before receiving the new ones. The directive takes immediate effect.
