The Federal Government has arraigned three men before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the abduction of pupils and teachers from a school in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The defendants — Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa and Shamsu Adamu Sani — were brought before the court on Friday on a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism, kidnapping, concealment of information, incitement and illegal mining.
According to the charge, Abdulrazak Umar is also known as Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid, Yunusa Musa as Yunusa bin Musa, while Shamsu Adamu Sani is also known as Abu Itisar.
The three defendants are said to be from Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.
The prosecution alleged that between January and May 2026, the suspects conspired with three other persons identified as Muhammad Sani, Jibril Mohammed and Ibrahim Khabab to plan and execute the abduction of the schoolchildren and their teachers in Oyo State.
The Federal Government further accused the defendants of assisting in the kidnapping operation and deliberately concealing information about the identities and activities of the alleged masterminds despite having prior knowledge of the plot.
The prosecution stated that the alleged offences contravene relevant provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The case is expected to proceed before the Federal High Court, with further details anticipated as the trial continues.
