The Independent National Electoral Commission says the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Adamawa State has recorded 43,380 new voter registrations as of July 7, 2026.
The Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mohammed Nura, disclosed this while providing an update on the exercise. Registration figures released by the commission showed that 22,527 women and 20,853 men have successfully registered during the exercise.
Nura explained that the registration drive is primarily aimed at ensuring that citizens who have attained the age of 18 since the last general election are eligible to vote in future elections.
“The main purpose of the CVR exercise is to ensure that youths who could not participate in the last general elections because they were underage are given the opportunity to participate after attaining the constitutional voting age of 18,” he said.
He added that although the exercise was initially scheduled to end on July 7, the commission’s headquarters may approve an extension.
“We were supposed to end the exercise on July 7, 2026, but I still believe the headquarters may approve an extension since the elections are still some time away,” Nura stated.
According to the REC, the exercise also provides an opportunity for registered voters who have relocated to transfer their registration to their new polling areas. He noted that those who have lost their Permanent Voter Cards can also apply for replacements during the exercise.
Nura stressed that the commission remains committed to ensuring that all eligible Nigerians are registered to participate in future elections and elect leaders of their choice.
He called on political parties in Adamawa State to encourage members who are yet to register or obtain their voter cards to take advantage of the ongoing exercise.
“Political parties should mobilise their members who have not registered to make use of the opportunity provided by the Continuous Voter Registration exercise,” he urged.
The REC also expressed confidence in the commission’s preparedness for future elections, assuring Nigerians that INEC is committed to delivering one of the country’s most credible general elections.
