Ghana head coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, has announced a provisional squad for the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, blending experienced internationals with emerging home-based talents ahead of the tournament.
Leading the squad is captain Portia Boakye, alongside established names such as Grace Asantewaa, Evelyn Badu, Jennifer Cudjoe, Princella Adubea, Doris Boaduwaa, Stella Nyamekye and Alice Kusi.
The provisional list also rewards standout performers from the Ghana Women’s Premier League, including Cynthia Konlan Fiindib of FC Samartex Ladies, Osman Huzeima of Jonina Ladies and Ajegipina Zakaria of Ampem Darkoa Ladies, reflecting Björkegren’s commitment to combining overseas-based stars with domestic talent.
Blend of experience and youth
Since taking charge of the Black Queens, the Swedish tactician has sought to rebuild the team with a mix of leadership, discipline and youthful energy.
Veteran players such as Boakye, Cudjoe, Asantewaa and Badu are expected to provide stability, while attackers Adubea, Boaduwaa and Nyamekye will be relied upon to deliver goals. Boaduwaa, in particular, heads into the competition after playing a crucial role during Ghana’s qualification campaign.
Domestic stars earn recognition
The inclusion of several home-based players highlights the growing influence of the local league on the national team.
Fiindib, Huzeima and Zakaria have all earned opportunities to fight for places in the final squad, underlining the coaching staff’s willingness to reward consistent performances in the Ghana Women’s Premier League.
Tough Group D assignment
Ghana have been drawn in Group D, where they will face Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali.
The Black Queens begin their campaign against Cape Verde on July 29, before taking on Cameroon on August 2 and Mali on August 6. All three group matches will be played at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.
With Cameroon bringing vast continental experience, Mali known for their physical style, and debutants Cape Verde eager to impress, Ghana face a challenging path to the knockout stage.
