Spanish champions, FC Barcelona have secured the future of Danish defender Andreas Christensen after extending his contract through to June 2028.
The 30-year-old centre-back was due to become a free agent after his previous deal expired at the end of June, but he has now committed to a further three years at the Catalan club.
Christensen’s spell at Camp Nou has been disrupted by a series of injury setbacks, limiting his appearances since joining the club.
Despite those challenges, Spanish media reports indicate that the Denmark international agreed to a substantial reduction in salary in order to remain with Barcelona.
“FC Barcelona and Andreas Christensen have reached an agreement for the extension of the Danish defender’s contract, keeping him at the club until 30 June 2028,” Barca said in a statement.
Christensen arrived at Barcelona from Chelsea FCin 2022 and quickly established himself as an important figure in the squad, helping the club capture the La Liga title in his first season.
Since making the move to Spain, the defender has featured in 98 matches for Barcelona and has collected several honours, including three La Liga crowns and the Copa del Rey.
