Police debunk viral claim of military helicopter dropping objects in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has refuted a widely circulated social media report alleging that a military helicopter dropped unidentified objects in a forested area located between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu communities in Anaocha Local Government Area.

According to The Punch, the command described the report as misleading and capable of creating unnecessary fear among residents.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said security operatives were swiftly dispatched to the area to investigate the claim.

“Following the report, the command immediately deployed operatives to the area for verification and assessment. So far, findings revealed that the alleged location remains calm, with no suspicious objects or any security concerns observed,” the statement read.

Ikenga noted that there was no evidence to support the allegation, adding that the area remained peaceful and under regular security monitoring.

He added, “Normal activities continue within and around the area, while security operatives maintain routine surveillance to ensure public safety and sustain public confidence.”

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, called on members of the public to ignore the viral alert and remain calm, assuring them of the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

“The CP reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and effective collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders in maintaining peace and security across Anambra State,” the statement added.
