The National President of Scripture Union Nigeria, Engr Uwen Cosmas Udoh, and seven other national executives of the organisation were reportedly abducted last Sunday, June 14, 2026, at about 7 a.m. along the Orlu–Mgbidi Road in Imo State.
The delegation was said to be travelling from Okigwe, where they had just concluded the organisation’s national camp fellowship conference, en route to Ibadan, the national headquarters, when they were ambushed and taken away by unknown armed men.
The incident was first made public in a statement shared online by a gospel artist, Evangelist Tolulope Toluwalase (@TOLUccI), who described the situation as deeply distressing for both the families of the victims and the wider Christian missions community.
“This is a painful and deeply troubling development,” Evang. Toluwalase was quoted as saying. “These are leaders who have just completed a national spiritual gathering, and their sudden disappearance has thrown their families and the entire fellowship into anxiety and uncertainty.”
A family source, speaking in anguish, also appealed for urgent action, “We are devastated. All we want is their safe return. Every passing hour increases our fear and pain.”
Security concerns have since been formally escalated to the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, with a petition reportedly submitted containing further details of the incident and the route taken by the victims.
In the petition, the organisation appealed for swift intervention. “We urge the Nigeria Police Force to act decisively and ensure the safe rescue of our leaders without delay,” the statement read in part.
Authorities are yet to release an official update on the incident as search and rescue efforts are expected to intensify.
