Trabzonspor set €35m price tag on Nigerian defender Nwaiwu

Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor are reportedly prepared to demand at least €35 million for Nigerian defender, Chibuike Nwaiwu this summer.

Nwaiwu joined the Black Sea Storm from Austrian outfit Wolfsberger AC during the January transfer window and quickly became an important figure in the squad.

The 22-year-old centre-back impressed with a series of commanding displays, registering three goals and one assist in 16 league appearances for the club.

He also played a crucial role in Trabzonspor’s successful Turkish Cup campaign.

According to Turkish publication Taka Gazete, Trabzonspor are open to selling the Nigeria international only if an interested club submits an offer above €35 million.

Although the defender remains a key part of the team, the Turkish club are reportedly willing to approve a big-money move should their valuation be met.

Trabzonspor have already begun searching for possible replacements and are said to be monitoring Gambian youngster Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh of Norwegian side Tromsø IL.

The Blue and Clarets are reportedly ready to submit a €7 million offer for Kinteh as they plan for the future of their defence.

Premier League club Fulham are among the sides linked with Nwaiwu, but it is uncertain whether the London club would be prepared to match Trabzonspor’s asking price.

A move to Craven Cottage could, however, ease the defender’s transition to English football, with fellow Nigerians Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey already part of Fulham’s squad.
