Stand-up comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, has expressed support for divorce, saying he often views it positively when couples decide to end unhappy marriages.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Morayo Show, Bovi argued that separation can bring relief to partners who feel trapped in toxic relationships or emotionally drained unions.
He said, “I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, nor will I want anybody to suffer me.”
The comedian, however, stressed that his perspective does not suggest marriage is without difficulty. He revealed that he has experienced challenges in his own 17-year marriage, which began when he got married at 29.
“That is not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. I got married at 29. I have been providing for 17 years nonstop.”
Bovi also reflected on societal expectations around men as sole providers, while emphasising that women should be allowed to pursue their ambitions and have their financial independence recognised.
“If a woman’s passion drives her to provide, her contributions should be recognised and respected.”
