Christian Eriksen is conscious and recovering after collapsing during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine, according to Sky Sports.
The incident occurred in the 65th minute when Eriksen was seen clutching his chest before falling to the ground, prompting immediate medical attention.
The match was subsequently abandoned as players and officials reacted in concern.
The Danish Football Association confirmed that the midfielder was conscious and stable, adding that he was “doing well under the circumstances.”
Team doctor Morten Boesen said Eriksen managed to walk off the pitch himself and that his implanted device appeared to function as expected.
Boesen further explained that Eriksen was briefly unconscious but regained awareness quickly, and was immediately in communication with medical staff.
He added that the player has been taken to hospital for further examinations to determine the cause of the episode.
This is not the first time Eriksen has suffered such a scare. In 2021, during a European Championship match against Finland, he collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest and was resuscitated on the pitch, later receiving an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator.
Following that incident, he was unable to continue his career in Italy with Inter Milan due to regulations concerning players fitted with such devices, leading to the termination of his contract in 2021.
He later returned to football with Brentford in 2022 before moving to Manchester United, where he made over 100 appearances and won both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
He departed the club in 2025 and is currently on the books of German side Wolfsburg.
