The abductors of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife have released a video showing the couple in captivity.
The retired army officer and his wife were kidnapped along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, close to Zakin Baure village.
In the four-minute clip circulating on social media, the wife of the retired general was seen relaying the demands of the abductors, according to Daily Trust.
Among the demands were the release of three of their members identified as Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru, as well as the return of livestock allegedly confiscated from them.
According to her narration, two of the detained suspects were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was apprehended in Kano.
She also appealed to the Katsina State Government and leaders of five local government areas to intervene and ensure compliance with the demands in order to secure their freedom.
Speaking briefly in the video, the retired general called for efforts toward peace, noting that the abductors had indicated willingness for dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
Daily Trust further reported that notorious bandit leader Kachallah Muhammad, who is said to operate in parts of Katsina State, had reportedly opened communication with the family of the retired general.
As of the time this report was filed, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had released an official statement regarding the video.
