Former England-born Nigerian footballer and media personality, John Fashanu, has publicly rejected recent media reports circulating about his health condition, marital life, and personal relationships, insisting that the claims are inaccurate and misleading.
In a video message posted on his Instagram page, the former striker moved to clear the air, stressing that he is not battling any illness and remains in stable condition despite speculation suggesting otherwise.
“I am in good health and doing well,” he said.
Fashanu also responded to reports involving a woman identified as Amal, which alleged she had been closely involved in managing his personal affairs and frequently travelling to Nigeria to see him. He firmly denied those claims, describing them as untrue and misrepresented.
“A number of statements published in the media are simply untrue,” he said.
He went further to correct what he called fabricated narratives around Amal’s visits to Nigeria, explaining that the timeline and frequency being reported were incorrect.
According to him, she had only recently visited the country once, during which she also introduced her husband.
“Contrary to what has been suggested, Amal has not been visiting Nigeria every weekend for the past three months. In fact, she visited me in Nigeria for the first time a fortnight ago, during which she introduced a man she referred to as her husband.”
The former football star, best known for his time in English football and later work in broadcasting, also addressed questions about his marital history.
He clarified that he has been married three times and is currently with his third wife, Vivian, whom he says remains an important part of his life.
“I have only been married three times and am currently with my third wife, Vivian, whom I love dearly,” he said.
He expressed further concern over what he described as misleading reports that also touched on his family, including his daughter, stating that such publications were unfair and potentially harmful.
He added that he had already involved legal representatives to assess the situation.
“My lawyers are currently reviewing the publications and considering the legal implications of the false claims that have been made,” he added.
Fashanu concluded his statement by calling on media organisations and commentators to uphold accuracy, fairness, and responsibility when reporting on private matters involving public figures, especially where reputations and family relationships are concerned.
