Pep Guardiola is reportedly enjoying a deeply emotional and joyful moment following his reconciliation with his wife, Cristina Serra, as he prepared for what was described as his final match in charge of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola appeared visibly emotional during a post-match ceremony after Manchester City’s 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.
Addressing supporters inside the stadium, he described Serra as an “exceptional woman” while reflecting on his family’s presence and support.
The Manchester City boss was joined at the stadium by Serra and other close family members, including their children, as well as his 95-year-old father, Valentin Guardiola, who also made the trip to witness the occasion.
Guardiola, Serra Early Marriage
Guardiola and Serra got married in 2014, two decades after they first met.
However, reports of a split emerged in January last year, sparking widespread speculation about the state of their relationship.
The 55-year-old Spaniard also took time to pay tribute to his family during his emotional farewell, especially his father, who recently celebrated his 95th birthday.
‘Yesterday my dad turned 95-years-old, woo,’ he said.
‘Maybe he doesn’t realise, but I’m pretty sure Cris [Serra] – an exceptional woman – and my kids realise in many, many years that the name of my family will be here for many years!’
The pair, along with their children and other loved ones, joined Guardiola on the pitch after the final whistle as he waved goodbye to the City supporters.
Divorce Drama
Last year, reports claimed the couple had begun divorce proceedings in 2024 after 30 years together, with Serra reportedly unhappy over Guardiola’s decision to extend his Manchester City contract until 2027.
However, more recent reports suggest the couple have been working towards reconciliation, with Guardiola also linked to potential international coaching roles that could allow him to spend more time in Barcelona.
“Pep Guardiola and Cristina Serra still wear their wedding rings,” insider Maria Lapiedra told EN Blau in April 2025. ‘They’re trying to reconcile. He came to her house for three days this Easter and stayed the night there.
“He’s saying he could be in Manchester and come see her on a private plane in Barcelona once a week, then leave again. She wanted to separate because he secretly renewed his contract, without speaking to Cristina, but Pep wants to stay with her.”
