Former Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, is expected to make his first return to the Etihad Stadium since leaving the club when City host Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next Wednesday.
According to BBC Sport, Guardiola is expected to be in attendance for the October 14 fixture, which will mark his first visit to the stadium since ending his decade-long spell with the Premier League champions at the conclusion of last season.
His return comes as City continue to deal with the fallout from the independent commission’s findings on the Premier League’s 115 charges against the club over alleged financial-rule breaches between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.
The commission found City guilty of the majority of the charges, although the club has appealed the verdict and continues to deny any wrongdoing.
Guardiola has remained supportive of City’s ownership and leadership following the findings. Earlier this month, he said he would “always” stand behind the club and expressed confidence that they would overcome the situation together.
The Spaniard enjoyed a remarkable 10-year tenure at City, winning six Premier League titles, including a record four consecutive championships.
He also guided the club to the Champions League, three FA Cups and five League Cups.
Before his departure, Guardiola had also insisted he would stay with City even if the club were relegated because of the charges.
He made the comments in November 2024.
City will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday before returning home to take on reigning European champions PSG three days later, with Guardiola’s presence expected to add another layer of interest to the high-profile Champions League encounter.
