Officers of the Kebbi State Hisbah Board have arrested a man who was allegedly discovered hiding inside a large “Ghana-Must-Go” bag at the residence of a married woman in Birnin Kebbi.
The incident occurred in the Badariya area after residents raised an alarm over suspicious movement around the house late on Monday night.
According to the Director of Sharia at the board, Sirajo Kamba, the operation was triggered after community members alerted authorities around 12:15 a.m. that a man had been seen entering the premises.
“The residents suspected an illicit affair contrary to Islamic teachings, hence their decision to formally notify the authority,” Kamba said.
He explained that Hisbah officers responded promptly and proceeded to the house to investigate the report.
“Upon receiving the report, the Kebbi Hisbah Board swiftly deployed officers to investigate,” he added.
Kamba noted that the woman initially denied that anyone was inside the house when officers arrived and requested permission to search the premises.
“When officers arrived, they requested permission to search the house, but the woman initially denied that anyone was inside,” he said.
He further stated that she later allowed a thorough search, which led to the shocking discovery of the suspect concealed inside a large bag.
“When the search was eventually conducted, the man was found hiding inside a ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bag,” Kamba confirmed.
According to him, preliminary investigations suggest that the man and the woman were involved in a romantic relationship, which both parties allegedly admitted during questioning.
Kamba added that the suspects would be charged to court to face appropriate legal action under Islamic law.
Meanwhile, the Hisbah Board said it continues to rely on community intelligence to address suspected moral and social violations within the state.
