Former tennis star, Juan Martín del Potro, has had his home in Tandil, Argentina, broken into while he was away, in a burglary that has shocked his local community.
The incident was discovered when his mother and sister returned to the property and found signs of forced entry.
They immediately alerted local authorities, who have since begun investigating the case.
According to reports, the intruders forced their way in by breaking a window and made off with cash, jewellery, and tennis racquets.
However, several of Del Potro’s most valuable sporting memorabilia were left untouched, including his 2009 US Open trophy, Olympic medals, and a Davis Cup replica.
This is not the first time the Argentine has been targeted by thieves. In 2013, while in Paris, his luggage was stolen, which included personal belongings such as a rosary gifted by Pope Francis.
Del Potro, 37, retired in 2022 after a career defined by major highs and repeated injury setbacks.
He is best remembered for his 2009 US Open triumph and his resilience across a disrupted but successful professional journey.
