A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment over corruption linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice James Omotosho convicted Mamman on a 12-count charge bordering on the alleged diversion of public funds tied to the power projects.
The trial judge ruled that the prison terms would run consecutively, resulting in a cumulative sentence of 75 years.
Justice Omotosho also ordered that the jail term would commence from the day Mamman is apprehended, directing security agencies across the country to arrest the former minister wherever he is found.
“The prison terms shall run consecutively, amounting to a total of 75 years imprisonment,” the judge ruled.
In addition, the court ordered the forfeiture of all funds and properties recovered from the former minister to the Federal Government.
The judge further directed Mamman to refund the outstanding balance of the alleged N22 billion linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.
Mamman served as Minister of Power under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
