Bovi, Nomzamo recreate viral Funke–Toyin snub at AMVCA

Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha drew laughter and mixed reactions at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) after reenacting the viral moment involving actresses Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.

The incident occurred during the duo’s hosting segment at the award ceremony held in Lagos on Saturday, where they delivered a comedic skit based on a controversial interaction that had sparked conversations online.

In the dramatized performance, Mbatha portrayed Akindele, while Bovi took on the role of Abraham, humorously referencing the now-viral moment that followed the premiere of The Return of Arinzo.

“Aunty, aunty Funke… mtcheeww. If I ever present an award to you, call me bastard,” Bovi joked during the skit, triggering loud laughter from the audience.

The reenactment comes weeks after a video surfaced online appearing to show Akindele overlooking Abraham during greetings at the premiere of The Return of Arinzo, held at the Balmoral Event Centre.

In the clip, Abraham was seen exchanging pleasantries with actresses including Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe before approaching Akindele, who appeared not to acknowledge her.

The video generated intense social media debate, with many fans speculating about a possible rift between the two actresses.

The controversy also drew attention because it surfaced shortly after Akindele publicly advocated stronger unity and collaboration within Nigeria’s film industry

While neither Akindele nor Abraham has publicly addressed the speculation, the AMVCA skit reignited discussions online, with attendees and viewers reacting to the lighthearted take on one of Nollywood’s most talked-about moments in recent weeks.
