Mainoo extends Man Utd contract until 2031

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2031, ending speculation surrounding his situation.

The 21-year-old England international had previously signed a deal in 2023, just before establishing himself in the senior team.

That contract was set to run until 2027, with an option for a one-year extension.

Mainoo, a product of the club’s academy in Stockport, found himself on the fringes of the squad during the tenure of former manager Ruben Amorim.

His limited role led him to seek a temporary move to Napoli during the January transfer window, but United turned down the request, emphasizing their belief in his importance to the squad.

Since Amorim’s exit earlier this year, Mainoo has re-established himself under interim boss Michael Carrick, starting 11 of the club’s last 12 league matches.

His only absence came in a 2-1 loss to Leeds United due to injury.

“Manchester United has always been my home; this special club means everything to my family,” he said.

“I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.

“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”

Mainoo’s resurgence at club level has also translated to the international stage, as he recently returned to the England national team squad, featuring in friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

The appearances marked his first call-up since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and his first outing for England since September 2024.

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised the midfielder’s qualities and potential.

“Kobbie is one of the most naturally gifted young footballers in the world,” he said.

“His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our outstanding Academy system.

“We are delighted that Kobbie has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he will develop into one of the best players in the world, ready to play a pivotal role in a Manchester United team challenging for the biggest honours.”
