Como extended their impressive away form with a 2–0 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, stretching their unbeaten run on the road against teams starting the round in the bottom half to eight matches (W6, D2).
The result marked a timely response after a difficult spell in Serie A, where Como had failed to win in their previous three outings (D1, L2), a dip that saw them drop out of the UEFA Champions League qualification spots.
They started brightly in Genoa, taking the lead in the 10th minute when Anastasios Douvikas rose superbly to meet Lucas Da Cunha’s precise delivery, guiding a powerful header beyond Justin Bijlow to set the tone early on.
Cesc Fàbregas’ side almost doubled their advantage midway through the first half. Nico Paz, continuing his fine season, weaved past two defenders before unleashing a curling effort from the edge of the box that narrowly missed the far post.
The Argentine playmaker then came even closer before the break, this time heading goalwards only to be denied by the upright.
Como were nearly punished for those misses before half-time, but Jean Butez stood firm, producing a sharp reflex save to keep out a close-range header from Sebastian Otoa and preserve the visitors’ advantage.
The game took a setback for Como during the interval, with Paz forced off and replaced by Maxence Caqueret due to what appeared to be an injury concern.
That change briefly shifted the momentum, as Genoa came out aggressively after the restart, with Mikael Egill Ellertsson firing over from distance in their first real sight of goal.
Genoa continued to push and came close through Morten Frendrup around the hour mark, only to be denied by another excellent stop from Butez, who remained alert to every threat.
Despite the pressure, Como struck decisively against the run of play to seal the contest in the 68th minute. Caqueret, eager to make an impact from the bench, flicked the ball intelligently into the danger area, where Assane Diao reacted quickest to head home at the near post and make it 2–0.
The victory represents a significant boost for Como as they regain momentum in the European race, climbing above Roma into fifth place and moving within two points of fourth-placed Juventus.
For Genoa, however, the defeat adds to a frustrating campaign. Daniele De Rossi’s side remain stuck in 14th and are increasingly staring at another lower-half finish since returning to Serie A.
