Edun, Dangiwa resigned before Tinubu’s cabinet changes – Presidency

The Presidency has clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, voluntarily stepped down from their positions prior to the recent cabinet adjustments announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the government said both officials submitted their resignation letters independently before the Federal Executive Council reshuffle was made public.

According to the statement, Edun, who recently turned 70 and has reportedly been dealing with health concerns, formally resigned on his birthday.

In his letter, he expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve.

“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Edun wrote.

He further commended the administration’s efforts, stating, “Under your leadership, Nigeria has emerged stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected. I wish you and the administration every success in the future.”

The Presidency disclosed that Edun also paid a farewell visit to the President at the State House, where both men held a private meeting before the former minister proceeded to focus on personal matters.

Similarly, Dangiwa was said to have tendered his resignation and thanked the President for the chance to serve in the cabinet.

President Tinubu, according to the statement, acknowledged the contributions of both men, describing their roles as critical to the administration’s economic and housing reform agenda.

Following their exit, the President has directed the newly appointed Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to build on ongoing reforms and drive fiscal policies with “renewed focus, discipline, and innovation.”

The Presidency also revealed that a new nominee for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, will soon be forwarded to the National Assembly for confirmation.
