The Bauchi State Government has directed all political appointees intending to contest elective positions in the upcoming party primaries to resign their appointments on or before Friday, April 24, 2026, in line with the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended).
The directive was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, who said the move is aimed at ensuring full compliance with electoral laws.
He explained that the decision aligns with legal provisions guiding the participation of public office holders in political contests.
“This directive is in line with statutory requirements governing the participation of public office holders in electoral processes and is aimed at ensuring full compliance with the law,” Gidado stated.
The government also acknowledged the contributions of affected appointees, commending their service to the state while wishing them success in their future political ambitions.
In addition, the statement instructed all appointees affected by the directive to formally hand over government responsibilities and property in their custody to the appropriate authorities within their ministries, departments, and agencies.
“All such appointees are further directed to hand over all government property in their possession, as well as the responsibilities of their offices, to the appropriate officer within their respective MDAs,” Gidado added.
The development comes as political activities gradually heighten across the country ahead of party primaries and the next general election cycle.
