AS Roma kept their push for European qualification alive after battling back to secure a 1-1 draw against Atalanta B.C. at the Stadio Olimpico, halting a four-game losing streak in this head-to-head fixture.
The contest sprang into life early, with Atalanta striking first inside 12 minutes. Marten de Roon won possession in Roma’s half after dispossessing Mario Hermoso and quickly released Nikola Krstović.
The forward showed composure, taking a touch before drilling a low finish into the bottom corner.
Roma responded with intent, and Donyell Malen came close to leveling before the break. He was first denied from close range by Marco Carnesecchi after neat work from Stephen El Shaarawy, before seeing another effort from a tight angle kept out by the busy Atalanta goalkeeper.
The equaliser finally arrived just before half-time. Devyne Rensch kept the attack alive with a clever header across goal, allowing Hermoso to make amends for his earlier error by volleying home from close range.
Roma maintained their attacking pressure after the interval. Substitute Nicola Zalewski went close with a long-range effort, while El Shaarawy and Malen were both denied again by Carnesecchi, who delivered an outstanding performance between the posts.
Hermoso nearly grabbed a second with a header later on, but the Atalanta goalkeeper remained alert to preserve parity.
Despite Roma’s dominance for large spells, Atalanta held firm to secure a valuable point, keeping their own European ambitions on track.
The result leaves Roma still searching for a win against Atalanta in recent meetings, but they remain sixth in the standings and within touching distance of the European places.
