Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has convened a high-level meeting with former governors of the state to deliberate on measures to tackle the persistent security challenges affecting several communities.
The meeting, held at the Government House in Jos, brought together former governors including Joshua Dariye, Fidelis Tapgun, Jonah Jang and Simon Lalong.
Speaking after the closed-door session, Tapgun confirmed the engagement, describing it as productive.
“We met with the governor alongside other former leaders of the state, and we had a fruitful discussion on the situation at hand,” he said.
Mutfwang, in a statement shared via his official Facebook page, said the gathering was aimed at charting a unified path toward peace and stability in Plateau.
“I convened a strategic meeting with distinguished leaders and former governors of Plateau State to deliberate on critical issues affecting the well-being, welfare and progress of our people,” he said.
He noted that discussions centred on the recent wave of violence in rural communities, stressing the need for lasting solutions.
“We critically reviewed the prevailing security situation, particularly the recent attacks, and explored ways to foster sustainable peace, strengthen unity and promote harmonious coexistence,” the governor added.
According to him, participants at the meeting resolved to pursue justice for victims of violence while developing frameworks that would reinforce peace and rebuild trust among communities.
“There was a strong emphasis on restoring fractured relationships and reinforcing Plateau’s identity as the Home of Peace and Prosperity,” Mutfwang stated.
The meeting comes in the wake of renewed attacks in parts of the state, including a late March incident in Jos North Local Government Area where dozens of residents were reportedly killed and many displaced.
Following the violence, Bola Tinubu had urged political and community leaders in Plateau to work together and propose practical solutions to end the crisis.
The engagement with former governors is part of ongoing efforts by the Mutfwang administration to address insecurity and restore lasting peace across the state.
