Jürgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino are reportedly among the leading candidates to take over at Real Madrid if the club decides to part ways with current coach Álvaro Arbeloa.
The Spanish giants suffered a Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday and now trail Barcelona by nine points in La Liga, leaving them with only one realistic shot at silverware this season.
According to Daily Mail, Madrid president Florentino Pérez is an admirer of both Klopp and Pochettino.
Former Liverpool manager Klopp is currently working in a senior role within the Red Bull football group, while Pochettino is set to lead the United States at this summer’s World Cup after previous spells at Tottenham, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Klopp’s reputation, achievements and strong personality are seen as qualities that would suit the Santiago Bernabéu, although questions remain over whether he is willing to return to the intense demands of coaching at the highest level.
He stepped down from Liverpool at the end of the 2023–24 season and has so far shown limited interest in returning to the touchline.
However, the opportunity to manage one of football’s most prestigious clubs could still tempt him back.
Pochettino, on the other hand, is expected to attract interest from several top clubs if he leaves his role with the United States national team.
Pérez has previously explored the possibility of appointing him, both during his time at Tottenham and later at PSG.
