Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has revealed how he urged Vinícius Jr to remain at the Spanish giants amid uncertainty over the Brazilian winger’s future.
Mourinho disclosed that he personally contacted Vinícius and questioned where the forward could possibly move after becoming accustomed to life at Real Madrid.
According to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho said, “I called Vini Jr and told him: Vini, where do you want to go? You only know Real Madrid.”
The Portuguese tactician explained that Vinícius might only realise the true stature of Real Madrid after leaving the club.
“When you leave, then you’ll know what Real Madrid is,” Mourinho said.
Mourinho then made his position clear, urging the Brazilian not to consider a move away from the Santiago Bernabéu.
“Don’t go.”
He further warned that leaving the Spanish giants would not be worth it for the winger.
“It’s not worth it!” the Portuguese coach added.
Vinícius has established himself as one of Real Madrid’s most important attacking players since joining the club, playing a major role in the team’s success and cementing his status as one of world football’s leading forwards.
The Brazilian has now committed his future to the club by signing a new six-year contract, bringing an end to speculation over his next move amid reported interest from Premier League side Arsenal.
