Noah Okafor expressed his joy after playing a decisive role in Leeds United’s impressive victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.
The Swiss forward delivered a standout performance, netting twice in the first half to put the visitors firmly in control of a fiercely contested clash.
Manchester United struggled to find their rhythm early on and their situation worsened shortly after the restart when Lisandro Martinez was sent off 11 minutes into the second half.
Despite being a man down, the hosts managed to reduce the deficit through Casemiro, but Leeds held on to secure all three points.
“I think that I can score and help the team. For this I am very happy and proud,” Okafor told Sky Sports.
“But to every player, every staff member that is with us, a big compliment because we were fighting to the end and we deserved the three points.”
Reflecting on his second goal, Okafor said, “I think I hit well, I tried because if you don’t try then the ball can’t go in. I tried and scored my second goal so really happy about that.
“It brought us even more into the game and we knew we had to defend as a team. We did well so really, really excited and happy.”
The forward also commended the team’s resilience at the back as Manchester United pushed for an equaliser late in the game.
He added, “We knew their goal was not at the best moment. So we had another 20-30 minutes to survive. We had to defend and attack as a team. We take this and we keep looking forwards.”
